His family’s honour, and the fragile peace between the warring gangs back home, is at stake. But can Kenzo really bring his brother to justice when he fears he may be responsible for who he has become?
The action moves between Tokyo and London, as Kenzo attempts to stem the violence engulfing both cities and to confront his own part in it. Cut adrift from everything he knows, Kenzo nevertheless finds hope in an extraordinary makeshift family of Londoners that includes charismatic rent boy, Rodney, and Sarah, a Met detective who poses a delicate threat to Kenzo’s marriage.
Told in English and Japanese, using a combination of live action and animation, and moving across multiple time frames, GIRI/HAJI is a tender and unflinching tale of broken people putting themselves back together in the face of the violent consequences of their past decisions.
